It's Fall, and These are a Few of My Favorite Things
It's too cold now for dewdrops on roses, but it's the perfect time of year for bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens. If you shop with Etsy, you might even receive some brown paper packages tied up with strings. Check out some of my favorite things among the fall decor essentials below.
Welcome Fall, Y'all, With a Cozy Doormat
On a cold winter's day, there's nothing more inviting than a doormat that literally says "It's cozy in here." Of course, after an offer like that, you'd better make sure it really is that cozy. The following items can help.
Cottagecore Mushroom Decor
Cottagecore - the romanticization of rural life - is still all the rage. I haven't seen it any cuter than this plush mushroom.
Cozy Up With a Good Book and Its Aroma
Pride and Prejudice has long been my favorite work of fiction, and it likely will be for a long time. I've read or listened to it at least a dozen times, but it's still my go-to when I need to escape to a place that is cozy, familiar, and comforting. You can brighten up dreary days when you read by the light of this candle that smells like the gardens of Pemberly.
Eat Some Comfort Food
Fall is a time for comfort foods, like warm soups and rich dishes roasted in the oven. Serve your favorite comfort foods with these serving spoons that immortalize Mr. Collins' comments about exemplary vegetables and excellent boiled potatoes.
Experience the Aurora Borealis
Seeing the Northern Lights is at the top of my bucket list. During the 2024-2025 season, we're at solar maximum, part of an 11-year cycle that means it's a great time for aurora watching. If you can't make it far enough north on a clear, cold night, live vicariously through the little fox on this iridescent northern lights sticker.
Carry a Cottagecore Keychain
You can take a bit of fall with you wherever you go with this "Sleep in the Forests" keyring. Wouldn't it be a dream come true to sleep in a cozy forest surrounded by foxes, rabbits, deer, and mushrooms?
Dress to Impress on Your PSL Run
If autumn had a flavor, it would no doubt be pumpkin spice. These cute polymer clay earrings depict a coffee cup with a pumpkin and leaves where the logo would normally be.
Take a Hike, Make Some Memories
This year, I started a new travel hobby - collecting hiking stick medallions. According to a Hike America poster I saw at the John James Audubon Museum gift shop, "For generations hikers in Europe have collected shields of different regions to attach to their staff. Each unique piece served as a memento of a new region explored or a new trail conquered."
These small, colorful, metal medals are available for most states, national and state parks, and other attractions. They can be attached to a wooden hiking stick like this one using small nails and wood glue. The result is a unique souvenir that is useful for getting you out of the house for autumn hikes and a great conversation piece when standing in the corner of your den or man cave.
